Neck Pain

Neck Pain

Neck pain can be caused by poor posture, acute trauma, or degeneration.  The lack of proper posture in the work place is an increasingly seen cause of neck problems and pain problems in general.  Computer screens especially cause people to put their heads into awkward positions.  A computer screen that is not properly placed forces an individual to tilt their head at an awkward angle and often forces them to do so for a prolonged period of time on a daily basis.  Over time, this poor positioning is bound to create problems.  The weight of the head is significant and can easily strain the muscles of the neck if the weight is not distributed equally as it is when an individual’s posture is correct.

Chiropractic care can help to relieve pain and restore lost range of motion in the neck, allowing the patient to return to a natural position where the head is resting upon the neck and not leaning forward placing further undue strain on the neck.  To maintain these results, the faulty ergonomics of the workplace will have to be fixed.

Your neck has got to be the most important part of your body. It is the only connection between your head, which houses your brain, and the rest of your body. In addition to your neck, your shoulders also work hard. The most minimal deviation in the relationships of the seven bones of your cervical spine (neck) can cause immense pain and restricted head and neck mobility.

Minor and Major

Generally, people suffer from two types of neck pain cases. Minor neck and shoulder pain involve sensations of discomfort, stiffness or soreness. If these symptoms last for more than a day or so, occur frequently or were preceded by an accident or some type of injury, chiropractors look at it as major.

Stress Responsers

Physical, emotional or chemical stress can affect the frequency and severity of neck pain. For the majority of people, the most stress-affected areas are the neck and shoulders.
Often, emotional stress is the ignored culprit. The term “pain in the neck” was probably coined by a chiropractor. Fear, anger or frustration can cause our neck muscles to tighten without our conscious decision. Over the passage of time, chronic muscle spasms occur, which in turn lead to headaches.
Some over-the-counter pain reliever might dull the pain, but it doesn’t eradicate the culprit behind it!
